Political Voices of Women Community

Women blogging about politics.

Hello Everyone,

Remember how much fun we had live blogging the debates on Twitter? Well, I thought that we could recapture that sense of community.

Would you be interested in participating in a bi-partisan TweetChat on the Economic Stimulus Bill on Monday, afternoon or evening.

I thought that this would be a great way for us to touch base, share our views on the economy and promote the Political Voices of Women Community by using our own Twitter hastag.

The TweetChat would be open to all members of the Political Voices of Women Community as well as anyone that you might invite. But please remember that the goal is to have a bi-partisan discussion.

If this is something that interests you, post a reply here.

I really hope that we can pull this together. I look forward to chatting with all of you.
May this be the first of many events.

Pamela Lyn

Based on your emails here's what's on the schedule for tomorrow.

The Political Voices of Women Community will be hosting "24 Hours of Stimulus: an online bipartisan citizen debate on the Economic Stimulus and Recovery Bill", on Twitter, starting at 12n EST Monday, February, 9th continuing through 12n Tuesday, February 10th.

To participate add the hashtags. #24stimulus and/or #pvow to each of your tweets. This will make sure that you message is visible to everyone participating in the discussion.

If you are new to Twitter here are a few tips for participating in the discussion.

Go to TweetChat
Logon on with your Twitter ID and password.
You will be prompted to enter the name of the room that you want to enter.
At this point type either #pvow or #24stimulus
You will not see all of the tweets that have been entered using the hashtags.

I look forward to a fascinating discussion.

Hope to see you there.

P.S. Keep an eye out for a few surprise guests :-)

And finally, I'm going to experiment with something new. Recently Jill Miller Zimon of "Writes Like She Talks" introduced me to CoverItLive a great live blogging tool which allows you to host a live-blogging and two-way communication event with your audience. The tool also allows have multiple producers, have panelists, share You-tube video and integrate Twitter feeds into your broadcast.

On the evening of the address, I'm going to try running CoverItLive on either the main Political Voices of Women site and/or my blog Coffee Conversation. I'm testing the software now to see how it appears on various blogging platforms and will keep it posted.

If you have a Twitter ID and would like to have your Tweets integrated into the CoverItLive broadcast, let me know by Monday evening.

Well, that's it for now. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Talk to you soon and I hope that you'll join in this event.

Now that a number of prominent newspapers like the Philadelphia Inquirer and Rocky Mountain News have either declared bankruptcy or announced that they are shutting down, there has been a backlash in main stream media against the blogosphere and social media.

The Twitter bashing became particularly intense last Friday when MSNBC's Contessa Brewer and Carlos Watson spent most of their afternoon segment making jokes about "tweeting" and Bill Maher devoted his closing monologue to blaming Twitter and the blogosphere for the demise of "real journalism."

So on Thursday evening, March 5th, 9pm EST members of Political Voices of Women and their friends will conduct a live blog discussion on the Value, or lack thereof, of Blogs, Twitter and other Social Media as News and Information Sources.
