Have you ever wondered why:
• So few women run companies around the world
• Even fewer American companies are run by Japanese men
• There are more tall male leaders than short male leaders
• Pakistani leadership is filled with cricket fans but not racquetball players
Chances are it has nothing to do with outright bias or intentional discrimination. So what happens?
Where is the diversity? Businesses around the world have had diversity as a "must do" in their mission statements for years, in s… Continue

BlogHer contributing editor Mata posted on this today - Is it a joke, or is it hatred disguised in Biblical language?
She quotes Frank Schaeffer who appeared on the Rachel Maddow show last night. Here is a video clip (you need to get about 50 seconds in)...
This is beyond disturbing, it's down right scary.
I'm interested in knowing what others in this community think about… Continue
Of course we don’t want our teenagers to “do it,” but when puberty hits, it’s on. The train is on the track. Hormones start raging and there is no stopping them. Crush number one begins with a shy smile on the way to their locker. Crush two hits with a whiff of the quarterback’s sweat after a football game. The giggles. The flutters. Our girls can’t stop thinking about the boys…and our boys can’t wait to feel up those girls. We can pretend it isn’t happening and ignore it, or we can confront it… Continue

I feel a need to post two poems I wrote about my nephew who died the day after Valentine's day last year, Feb. 15, 2009
The first poem addresses when we found out that Sean had been killed by an IED:
Don’t answer that door
A roadside bomb
DON’T ANSWER THAT DOOR
I’m sorry Ma’am
Improvised
There’s a message
Explosive
Call me back
Device
Sean was killed
How can that be?
In Iraq
Not Sean
What happened?
He was killed
WHAT HAPPENED?
IED
The second poem addresses the journey of our grief:
The Journe… Continue
The discussion about Health Care Reform is very interesting. While Medical Insurance can be a complicated issue, I see valid points on each side. When a person is in between jobs, they have to fund their own Short Term Insurance, self-employed people find it a challenge to obtain adequate coverage, and the under privileged have to depe… Continue

Ok readers, you can get up off the floor now.
I haven't suddenly lost my mind. But you know that I have to call them like I see them, even when it gets me into big trouble. So here goes.
In a recent interview with FoxNews on the topic of the tragedy at Ft. Hood, Ms Malkin stated:
Click on the link below to walk through an interactive "choose-your-own-adventure" style program to learn how H.R.3962, the Affordable Health Care for America Act, will affect you and your family. The House will be voting this weekend, so it's not too late to call and make your voice heard. Simply call the Capitol Hill switchboard at 202/224-3121 and ask for your representative's office. If your representative is a member of the Blue Dog Caucus, you especially need to call. Speak now or forever… Continue
Social media is changing the political landscape and has the potential to change the world. Today, instead of just a handful of elected officials debating the future of medical insurance or citizen insurance for all, we the people can voice our opinions too. And the politicians are paying attention. They are learnin… Continue

Three years ago my husband and I were very excited parents-to-be and when our son, Ethan, was born we received the shock of a lifetime. We found out that our new baby boy had a vascular tumor that covered most of his lower right leg that required chemotherapy. He started oral steroids at 6 weeks old and on my second day back to work after maternity leave, the doctors told us that his health had spiraled out of control so quickly that he would need to start chemotherapy immediately. He had to hav… Continue

Sakena Yacoobi is on a mission. Her goal is to bring education to Afghanistan, a country that has a 70 percent illiteracy rate. Her main focus is girls and women. She believes education can ameliorate the ravages of 35 years—and counting—of war. She speaks with an urgency that emanates from that core conviction. To “build a better future for Afghanistan,” she founded the Afghan Institute of Learning in 1995. “Empowerment” is… Continue

I have to say my skepticism about this new medium has now disappeared. Without it, one wonders if all this could have happened…Technology has not just made the world more dangerous; it has also enabled freedom to keep one small step in front of tyranny and lies. One thing you can do is use Twitter to fight the regime yourself. Help bring these fascist bastards down at the end of your modem. — Andrew Sullivan
A week ago, a G-20 protestor was arrested for using Twitter as a means to commun… Continue
The homeowners guide to living the American dream has shifted a little bit now that home prices have take a downturn and unemployment has been around double digits.
This has resulted in those people barely making payments, with full-time jobs, now owing more than their home is worth. It has also made it so those who lost their jobs, and without much savings, to realize they are in trouble.
There are many lifestyle changes that can help, without altering your happiness. There are several discip… Continue

The pitch was definitely successful. Take the Olympics to a South American country for the first time in history was the message used to make Rio’s argument. A good point indeed, considering Brazil’s role in this global economy.
The country is the largest in South America, the 10th economy in the world and, according to the World Bank, will rise to the 5th within the next seven years. But will the 2016 Olympics be good for Rio or Brazil? We are yet to find out. So far, so good!
Besides the ent… Continue
As of today guns are allowed in bars and restaurants serving alcohol in the great state of Arizona. So, we drink, drive and pull the trigger. But not only that, we can also point our guns when threatened and that is not intimidation.
To some, evolution doesn’t exist; some things never change, so why move forward? In Arizona going back in time is what makes sense, once an Old West, always an Old West.
The law in effect today allows people with concealed-weapons permits to bring their guns into… Continue

Dear Tussy,
I'm not usually the person people would turn for charity, since I basically have a "no charity" policy. I believe that all those cases, all those needs that turn to charity to be covered should be addressed by the Government, the State, specially since we vote them to be there, to help, to make the country a better place, according with their many campaing promises, and then take our tax money to address those needs. I would like here to go back on my own lines and stress out the "I… Continue

Finally, the health insurance reform debate turned its focus -- albeit briefly -- on women and girls. About time. Women make most of the health care decisions in American families, and because of our longevity we tend to use more health care services as well. Further, because a persistent wage gap deprives many women of fair pay, women also have a harder time paying for health care and health insurance. And, to add insult to injury, insurance is typically more expensive for women. Without common… Continue
Dear Ladies,
Today I've been looking around the community, as I'll keep looking around from now on, and I've found writers here whose minds thrill me. My first impression while browsing at the "All Blogs" big showroom of entries was "Dear Hyne, there's a serious Obamaism going on here!". Well, Mr. Obama is indeed an event meant to cause a lot of conmotion, and yes, growing into a full blown Obamania is quite expectable. But still... Ma'am!
My first day around (though it was today), sta… Continue
While health insurance reform is the talk of the town when it comes to policy, it's the off-year gubernatorial races that have the politicos buzzing. Why? Well, they help the parties and pundits and the wonks read the tea leaves for the 2010 midterms elections. At the moment, the tea is something of a bitter brew for the Democrats.
In New Jersey, Gov. Jon Corzine (D) is in serious trouble against Republican Chris… Continue
