Dear Senators Obama and McCain:

Congratulations on getting this far. The challenge before you now is for my vote. What can you do for me? I want accountability.

Would you sign a contract when elected taking accountability for your short-comings? If you fail our education system, will you send your children to an inner-city school that is in dire need of repairs and where children have to go through metal detectors? Where they have not seen a new book in years, where the average student is not at the reading level they should be and where teachers are underpaid?

If you fail to bring back our troops safely and responsibly, will you sign up to 4 years of service in the Middle East? If Bin Laden is not captured and brought to justice, will you personally go looking for him and not return until you’ve found him? If you fail our brave, injured soldiers with no mental & health insurance, will you pay their medical bills for 4 years?

If you fail to stabilize our economy and create new jobs, will you work for minimum wage for 4 years? If at the end of your term, our country still lacks a good health plan that will cover everyone, will you and your family go without health care for 4 years? Because, senators, people live like this every day, and both of you are promising change. I am tired and disillusioned with politicians that will say anything to get the job, but not get the job done. Enough with the empty promises and enough with commercials attacking each other’s policies. Instead concentrate only on what you will do for our country.

If Roe vs. Wade is over-turned, will you personally raise those children for 18 years? No one makes the choice to terminate a pregnancy lightly. Life is precious, so let’s unite on educating and preventing unwanted pregnancies.
Do these questions make you feel like you are putting yourself and your family on the line? Good. Because that is what we do by voting for you. Show me by example how you can do the job. Use some of that campaign money you both are so great at raising, and donate it to a national emergency fund that will rebuild schools and open clinics where people can get affordable care. Use your celebrity friends to raise money. We know that in the face of great need, the American people are generous. People like Oprah have shown us in the past how giving people can be. Citizens want a purpose and want to help. We live in a world of reality shows, so let’s show reality on TV. Let the entertainment world help rebuild cities, school and lives by creating jobs. Enough with pointless entertainment and faux celebrities. We can all be celebrities in our own communities.

Encourage companies to go Green by creating jobs and provide tax breaks to those who enroll. Allow the people the opportunity to participate in changing the color of the country. Call upon our civic duty. For example, call upon doctors to assist with teaching biology, scientists to teach science, business men to teach math, Pulitzer Prize winners to teach English, and musicians and artists to help with music and art. Certainly with today’s technology, there are no limitations such as distance or time anymore. A small video clip from such professionals would go a long way to provide our children with a world class education. Let us, once again, become a leader in the global community.

Senators, I have a million ideas, and so do people more brilliant than me; yet, we are not heard. Will you hear us? Will you let our country see the worst years in history, or will you make history by turning our country around? This is the time to think outside the box, not box our ideas and discard them. Use our technology to get the help you need. I will roll up my sleeves and help you succeed, if you roll up yours and work alongside your countrymen; those men and women that will give you the job of running our country. You will owe us accountability.

I do not want to see what a fancy life you are leading in the White House, throwing parties and going on multiple vacations. I want to see you cleaning up debris if our country is ravaged by natural disasters. I want to see you receive the bodies of our fallen heroes, and mourn with their families. I want to see you opening new schools and businesses, giving people keys to houses, and properly equipping our soldiers. I want to see you saving energy by flying commercial, using green cars, buying American, rebuilding a new America that harnesses power from nature. I want to be able to disagree with the current administration without being called a traitor. I want to feel safe without having my privacy taken away from me. Enough trampling on my civil liberties.

Senators, I have dreams and hopes, but none of them will come to pass if we all stand idle and do nothing. Therefore, I write to you today to vent my frustration and to see which one of you will rise to the challenges and secure my vote.

Sincerely,
Gabriella Sagnes

I've thought about that, maybe when I am having a good hair day.:) I tried to do an audio clip but my microphone was not good enough so the sound was not acceptable.

If you have a webcam you could also create a Youtube video. It might just go viral

I emailed it to my friends and family for their consideration and I also posted the letter at iReport.com too. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. :)

Thank you Pamela Lyn, I am working on getting the contact information to mail them a hard copy. right now I am just trying to circulate it as much as I can on the web, hoping it will reach them. I didn't think about my local paper, but thanks for a great suggestion. I will do that.:)

Great post. I hope that you mailed this to the candidates and that you submitted it as an op-ed piece to your paper
