McCain Camp's Pre-Debate Spin: Palin Doesn't Need to Pass an I.Q. Test. Here's how the article begins:
Listening to surrogates and aides to John McCain on Thursday, one is left with the impression that there is no great need for Gov. Sarah Palin to actually answer questions during tonight's vice presidential debate.
And on it goes. So here's my loud response to that take on the matter.
Senator McCain, you're dead wrong about that. I don't know who Sarah Palin is! I had never even heard of her before you asked her to be your running mate. I know Joe Biden. Joe Biden has a PROVEN NATIONAL RECORD. I do not know this Palin person. At all. So, rather than expect very little from her, I expect her to dazzle me with her intellect, her grasp of ALL THE ISSUES. All of them. Because I don't know her. And if she doesn't introduce herself to me tonight as "the vice-presidential candidate, Sarah Palin," rather than as "the hockey mom, Sarah Palin," I will consider her appearance at this debate to be a complete failure, and an utter waste of my time. I don't need to watch this debate to find out who Joe Biden is. Do you understand?
You're trying to pull the 2000 Gore/Bush debate strategy of lowering expectations, but you're not "politics as usual?" How stupid do you think we are?
