The Santelli Tea Party Movement - A Call for Fiscal Conservatism or Something Else

"The right will take some time to absorb this but Bush was Carter II - with two full terms. All that rage at what has actually happened - bottled up by rank partisanship for years - has come bounding out. Hence the bizarre spectacle of a president just two months on the job being treated on the right as if he's already Robert Mugabe. Throw in a little racial and cultural panic, add a world of genuine economic pain ... and you have the Malkin surge. " -- by Andrew Sullivan, commenting in the "tea party movement in host post The Brutal Truth for The Daily Dish.

Of course, I would never compare former Pres. George W. Bush to Nobel Peace Prize Winner former Pres. Jimmy Carter. The latter understood diplomacy. But you get the point.

The hypocrisy is obvious.

Yesterday, I took part in a great discussion on the current economic crisis with Alan Silberberg, CEO of You2Gov and Tami Winfrey Harris of the blog "What Tami Said" and host of the "The Best of What Tami Said". a blogtalk radio program. During our discussion we clearly explained that many economy watchers saw this crisis coming as early as 2005. You can listen to our discussion here

or by going to The Best of What Tami Said for Sunday, March 22

So where were the cries for Tea Parties then?

I'll let you be the judge.

In the following video Rick Santelli responds to White House Secretary Robert Gibbs' comments that he really should read the President's plan.

Reagan's theory was really 'trickle down' economics borrowed from the Republican 1920s (Harding-Coolidge-Hoover) and renamed 'supply side.' Cut tax rates for the wealthy; everyone else will benefit. The supply-side rhetoric 'was always a Trojan horse to bring down the top rate.' Many middle-class and poor citizens figured it out, even if reporters did not.
The rich and their corporations cannot see tax subsidies as "socialism" or "corporate welfare"....... they see it as "just good business"...... The Elite have always considered themselves to be, somehow, exempt from responsibilities, and from bothersome laws..........
